Simple Computer Briefcase Pattern

  Easy Computer Briefcase Pattern

Estimated time:  2/3 hours.

Supplies needed:  5 yards of fabric [estimated], thread, seam ripper, sewing machine or just a needle, ruler.

Back stitching is a simple technique that helps keep seams together.  Simply sew forward about three stitches, then sew back, then continue sewing forward.  Make sure to back stitch at the start and finish of every stitch.

  1.   First you need about 5 yards of fabric in all.  You can use two different fabrics or the same, whichever you would prefer.

  2. Measure and cut 15 inches (length) and 11 inches (width) on two pieces of the outside fabric in a rectangle shape (you may need to measure your computer to make sure you have the right measurements. Make sure you always cut a little extra than the measurements).

  3. Do step two to the inside fabric.  Either use a different fabric, or the same as the outside.

  4. Sew the outside fabric inside-out together on all sides but the top.  Make sure to back stitch.

  5. Sew the inside fabric right side showing on each side of the already sewn fabric.  Make sure to back stitch.

  6. Cut out four pieces of fabric for straps (measure yourself or someone for how long you want it.  You may want to cut pieces a little longer than the measurement).

  7. Sew the straps together and make sure they’re even.

  8. Sew the straps onto the outside of the bag (you may want to sew it over multiple times to secure the straps so they won’t break). Make sure to back stitch every time you sew the straps.

  9. [Optional]  Cut a small piece of fabric from the outside fabric and sew it on the inside for a pocket.  Also back stitch.

  10. Flip the bag inside out so patterns are more visible.  Make sure to cut long threads/strings.

       11. Voila!  You’ve made a Computer Briefcase Bag!  :)
